Siyakhana, meaning
‘we build each other’
is committed to the reconstruction of South Africa through various projects, which are aimed at empowering and uplifting the people of South Africa by helping them build a place they can call ‘home’.
Siyakhana is part of the social impact ministries based at Claremont Methodist Church (CMC) in Cape Town, South Africa. Projects run throughout the year and are aimed at the local community.
Projects include painting buildings to give them a new, fresh look; creating food gardens to those in need; basic interior decoration to improve the function of a building and our big, annual event, partnering with Habitat for Humanity SA to build a home during ‘National Desmond Tutu Building on Faith’ (NDTBOF) week. Funds and donations are needed per event.
Alongside Habitat for Humanity SA, Siyakhana helps achieve the vision of providing simple, decent and affordable homes to previously disadvantaged communities. Saturday builds are once again being held monthly in Mfuleni and during NDTBOF week 2009, from 14-18 September, we complete an entire house in 5 days!
If you would like to be a part of this volunteer base (no skills or experience needed!) please get in touch with Nici Alexander (nici.alexander@gmail.com) for more information.
Siyakhana is a volunteer based ministry, reliant on donations from the public, Claremont Methodist Church (CMC) and Carbon Calculated. If you would like to make a financial donation, (a house costs ~R80 000) or sponsor items (old cupboards, paint, wood etc.) please contact us.
Siyakhana encourages people to move from their personal box and into areas that you would not normally visit. Volunteers come from all backgrounds but share the gifted trait of having giving hearts and wanting to make a difference to the lives of others, often less fortunate than themselves.
